The Sustainable Packaging Alliance aims to be a conduit for developing an internationally recognised, commercially focused Australian Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Packaging research and technology development. Through leadership, demonstration and partnerships, SPA will simultaneously deliver improvements in packaging sustainability in commercial environments, nurture the development of skills to advance packaging sustainability and provide knowledge to inform directions for environmental improvement.
SPA’s strategic research, technology transfer, education and influence programs currently aim to:
- Create a vision that defines benchmarks and measures for assessing the sustainability of packaging systems.
- Build business understanding and capability to develop and commercialise sustainable packaging solutions.
- Develop tools and methodologies to facilitate design and assessment of packaging systems sustainability.
- Identify barriers to the development of sustainable packaging and provide underpinning knowledge to enable development of strategies to achieve change.
