Established in 2003 the SPA Round Table series is Australia’s primary forum for bringing together diverse stakeholder groups involved and affected by issues relating to the environmental impact of packaging.
SPA Round Tables are a regular networking and knowledge exchange forum that also provides on-going education of and, informed dialogue between stakeholder groups. Round Table participants are from diverse skill and organisational backgrounds, linking marketing, business, packaging, engineering, recycling, environmental, consumer, regulatory, and research groups in a range of activities. The multi-disciplinary nature of the Round Tables provides an opportunity to build relationships and facilitates creation of a shared understanding of the issues, challenges and how to tackle them.
For SPA it is an important forum for the identification of research needs, involvement of participants in research activities and a forum for dissemination of research outcomes. The series leads the way in addressing pertinent issues, helps set the sustainable packaging research agenda and provides the origins of innovative and collaborative projects.
Each Round Table has a topic with guest speakers and panelists drawn from the stakeholder groups to ensure cross-fertilisation of ideas, issues, perspectives and opportunities. Round Tables showcase leading industry practice, communicate the latest research outcomes and include team exercises aimed at transferring knowledge and awareness to the participants.
